A year and a half ago, Pamela Baker, H&R Block franchise owner, expanded her business and moved into a 7,000 square foot warehouse. She sought help from ACE to buy computers, furniture, and workstations.

“Now my business is one of the largest tax offices in the country,” she says.

“I am dedicated to helping clients achieve success by helping them organize and structure their business and establish tax and financial practices,” she says. “I especially enjoy working with small businesses and startups.”

Pamela Baker started crunching numbers, and doing good deeds, at an early age. She was only 15 when she lent her math skills to Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) to help elderly and indigent people with their taxes.

Now she still volunteers her time with that organization, but she brings more than 30 years of diverse tax, financial, and business consulting experience to the job. Baker owns a franchise of H&R Block; her location was recently recognized as one of the Elite 25 out of 15,000 units. Her business also is in the running to be the Featured Franchisee of the Year, an award based on client retention, customer satisfaction, and client growth.

Baker was born in Atlanta. She earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Georgia and then went into marketing, working for several Fortune 500 companies that include Sprint, the Georgia Lottery, and National Service Industries.

“After 9/11, I felt the urge to step out on faith and work for myself,” she says. “So, I returned to my old neighborhood in Southwest Atlanta with the goal of creating some jobs.”  Her business is located at 2920 Martin Luther King Drive, SW, and she currently employs a staff of 13 during tax season.

Baker also has created another not-for-profit organization that prepares taxes for free for poor, elderly, and disabled clients. Somehow, she still finds time to help some ACE clients with their taxes as well.

“Since I come from a financial background, I like to be a mentor and give something back.”
